Global Warming and other swindles

There are numerous urgent issues this week but the top long is the July 7, “Live Earth” 7-continent 24-hour concert led by Al Gore and some musical bands. It was a massive propaganda and culture offensive to twist the facts about Climate Change and blame Man’s industrial activity instead of the real scientifically demonstrated causes, particularly solar activity. The anti-industrial and human bias Gore’s campaign is aiming at deterring the developing world from economic-industrial modernization, just like the 80’s anti-nuclear energy campaign (which was disastrous for Filipinos).

With the all-out support, bigger than the anti-nuke campaign before, the “blame human beings” climate change theory is being given massive impetus, and I saw Al Gore on TV declare without equivocation that Man is the cause of “global warming”; it was clearly the thesis in his “Inconvenient Truth” which conveniently omitted many basic scientific data that shows climate change and global warming as recurring and fluctuating cycles over long periods where past eras when mankind was sparse, of warm periods exceeds today’s temperatures recorded in glacial, oceanic and other core studies.

Here’s another proof: “Martin Sharp, a glaciologist at the University of Alberta in an international research project that collected the oldest ever-recorded DNA samples. He had previously supported the idea that global warming was caused by humans … The DNA was discovered at the bottom of a 2km-thick ice sheet and came from trees, plants and insects of a boreal forest estimated to be between 450,000 and 900,000 years old…. They suggest the temperature of the southern Greenland boreal forests at the time was probably between 10C in summer and -17C in winter.

“The reduced glacier cover means the global ocean was probably also between one and two metres higher during that time compared with current levels….’These findings allow us to make a more accurate environmental reconstruction of the time period from which these samples were taken, and what we've learned is that this part of the world was significantly warmer than most people thought.’” Readers should see “Global Warming Swindle” on the Internet, and those not Internet savvy can text us for ways to access a copy and spread it amongst family and friends.

There is huge funding for disinformation about climate change benefiting Philippine WWF and Greenpeace; a grant of over $ 50-M was recently given to the Philippine to promote it. “Global Warming Swindle” shows how this money buys pseudo-science and NGO’s for Al Gore’s disinformation. Common sense tells us the natural forces are overwhelmingly powerful over man’s effect, like the for of lunar gravity each day pulling the tides which could not be duplicated by seven billion people on earth jumped in to the sea.

The second urgent issue is the war of decent journalists and citizens against Tulfo’s campaign to villify the good name of Trillanes and his family. Tulfo obviously doesn’t want to the truth about alleged “letters” and “info” he is receiving from people because he could easily find out the truth by getting to know Trillanes and his entire family. The family is very open, all are working middle class people; very modest in lifestyle and means. Estelita Trillanes, the Trillanes matriach, is a SME entrepreneur and times have not been very good for Filipino SMEs.

The fortunate thing is Tulfo’s tirades elicits more sympathy for Trillanes. The usual reaction to Tulfo’s character assassination on Trillanes is, “Wala naming credibility iyan, it’s a swindle of good journalism.” It reflects on the Inquirer, keeping Tulfo in its rolls, but I am not surprised – like the Inquirer’s editorial against Guingona’s defense of Estrada’s rights; the Inquirer owners who are really pro-Gloria and FVR would not like to see the innocence of Estrada confirmed lest the “Mile Long” issue be raised again.

President Estrada has already won his case contrary to the mold-covered Sergio Apostol’s claim. The silent majority, including the middle and upper classes, know Estrada cannot be guilty of plunder as the Joe Velarde case involved no government funds while Chavit Singson was the only real culprit in all the tobacco tax fund. Gloria is the one on trial; her interference to convict Erap shows her desperation. Alex Magno says it’s Erap supporters interfering, but everything was quiet until Gloria’s full-page ads conditioning the public for a swindle of justice.

Finally, every year the airline treaties and policies issue arises due to the annual negotiations and reviews. The agents of the foreign airlines such as the AIM management “professionals” such as Ponciano Intal gets into the “seminar” mode and debates the issue of “Open Skies” where they want to grant foreign airlines all the privileges and unlimited seats without reciprocity with domestic airlines. When they can’t get their total “Open Skies” they try the “Pocket Open Skies”, with the same effect of stealing markets from domestic airlines to the long-term detriment of the industry.

Many Filipino airline patrons are fooled by the “dive rates” of foreign airlines without knowing the history of such strategies that eventually lead to higher rates when the domestic carriers are dead. It is the swindler’s strategy to entice victims before making the killing. So far, the CAB is able to stop the wholesale swindle and maintain protection of the national and Filipino air transport sector survival and growth.
