DIE HARD III

We sympathize with the Batasan Five immensely. To express our solidarity we attended the holy mass said by Bishop Labayen for them two weeks ago. We’d like to help in anyway to ensure them fair and just treatment, seemingly improbable now given Gloria’s twisted state of mind. But we will be remiss if we fail to remind one and all that half the hole the Batasan Five is in they themselves helped dug in the course of the events that led to Edsa Dos. We only hope that Teddy Casiño’s eye witness account of Gloria’s 2001 conspiracy to subvert the Constitution is not too late to save us all.
The Batasan Five had helped weave the web of deception in which they have become entangled. As Walter Scott might say to them, “Oh what a tangled web you weave, when first you practice to deceive.” All the demonization and persecution of Erap has now come home to Edsa Dos conspirators to roost. The trouble is, the web has entangled so many others – like the Filipino people who have been manacled and gagged by the corruption of institutions and fascistic rule of Gloria, like President Joseph E. Estrada who has faced five years of blackmail, persecution and Kangaroo court justice.
Teddy Casiño and company can no longer avoid the long delayed atonement they must make if they are to help save themselves and the rest of the country –aid anti-GMA forces to finally rip apart the interwoven mesh work of lies that hold up the Edsa Dos myth and legalese that hold up the Gloria regime. Casiño is off to a good start in exposing Gloria’s direct complicity, if not masterminding, of the Gloria-military coup versus the sovereign will of the people in 2000 to 2001. Gloria’s admission to the COPA celebration party in 2001 is caught on tape and including in the VCD “Triumph of Truth”.
It is getting more and more impossible for Gloria and her generals to prosecute those opposing GMA when the mounting evidence of Gloria assumption of power is burying them faster than they can dig themselves out. The Batasan Five should pray they can help inter and put to rest the Gloria regime than she does them. The fastest way is to put GMA into the ground is by restoring the legitimately elected government of President E. Estrada who has shown that he will uphold the Constitution, the Rule of Law, and the fair and just treatment of all Filipinos whether from Left, Center or Right.
While the light and scorching heat of truth is melting away GMA’s web of lies fast, she’s frantically spinning more lies to keep her last threads of power from completely unraveling. Last week another one of these new lies was spun around the issue of former Senator Gregorio Honasan’s status as a man wanted by the GMA regime which put a price on his head. In a clear effort to diminish the growing stature of Honasan as a courageous fugitive of conscience, GMA conspired with the unconvincing character Oliver Lozano to spin that Honasan is seeking dialogue through Lozano.
We received a call from one of Honasan co-accused with a price on his head too, Ernie Macahiya, we informed us that there is absolutely no truth to the claim of Lozano that Honasan has written a letter to him seeking his intermediation and his legal assistance. Macahiya termed Lozano’s claim as “condescending” and implied that the note Lozano claims to be from Honasan can not be genuine and authentic – a polite way of saying that it is a complete fabrication. “Besides”, Macahiya added, “there are very many legal luminaries offering to help Honasan if he calls for it.”
The GMA regime and Gen. Esperon’s case against former senator Gregorio Honasan is hopelessly snared in contradictions. The contradictions showed itself when the Black and White movement, and then Cory Aquino’s bolted from the coalition with GMA ande accused her of corruption, cheating and other venalities. Now, with Teddy Casino’s indictment of GMA in the illegal power-grab that constituted Gloria’s ascension to power, GMA and Esperon’s image before the officers and men of the AFP will take a even harder fall. It’s getting shakier and shakier for Gloria and her hangers-on.
What Honasan and the idealist-reformist active, incarcerated and retired military leaders can do is continue propaganda work, continue educating the soldiers as they did from 1989 to 2003, and until 2005. Their numbers have been growing instead of shrinking through the years. The next few months will see the final tipping point as GMA and Esperon’s persecution of the idealized military officers like Gen. Danilo Lim and Col. Ariel Querubin sinks deeper into the consciences and feelings of the military men.
I found a perfect Dutch proverb for Gloria: “No matter how fast a lie is, the truth will catch up with her.” It’s been only more than five years before Gloria’s lies caught up and the web started to melt away despite all the time, resources and forces at her command. This progress that truth and the people have won restores our faith– there is justice in the World after all. There must be a just God above and Good can triumph in the end.
