Corporatocracy's damage control

DIE HARD III
Herman Tiu Laurel
6/29/2005

Gloria’s dead. Everybody knows that. Her closest allies in the cabinet and the corporatocracy tries control the damage. Some advised her to admit the truth believing they can do a “Clinton”, but the public is not buying it. As some people said, “Clinton screwed one woman, maybe at worse screwed up his family; Gloria screwed the Constitution and our nation of 84 million people.” Gloria’s allies should banish the thought of stonewalling in the Senate and Congress, that’s not going to avert national indignation after her admission.

The corporatocracy represented by the usual “civil society” has come up with counter-attacks. Jesuitic Joaquin Bernas and original Comelec “anay” Christian Monsod set the predicate to treat Gloria’s violation of the Constitution in imposing upon a Comelec commissioner to intervene in her behalf in the last elections where she was personally interested. Solita Monsod, the other half as bad of Christian, had the gall to say on radio that “…at least Gloria apologized; Erap never did.” What does Erap have to apologize for when he’s in fact paying for alleged crimes he is now proven innocent of.

Bill Luz is all over cable TV and talk shows to repeat the Bernas-Monsod lie about the “impropriety”. Donald Dee and gang at the exporters association blabber on about how bad the whole episode is for foreign investment, and Ayala’s men and women led by Edsa Dos hatchet man Renato de Villa and now impotent symbol Cory Aquino rally their “civil society” to a “Truth Commission” that is as much hamstrung by historical, political-economic transgressions against truth as Gloria all of whom are part of the continuing Edsa Dos lies, to be capable to dealing with the entire truth.

The “civil society” includes the likes of Dan Songco who finagled the P 32-B Code-NGO Peace Bonds from Gloria and Camacho, clearing the deal through Yuchengco’s RCBC – a deal Makati Business Club icon Dick Romulo praised. With Dan Songco was the whole caboodle including Dinky Soliman, Ging Deles, Marissa Camacho, Tess Baltazar, ad nausea of Kompil people cashing in, through such deals or through lucrative appointment, on the 2001 coup against the only legitimately and unquestionably elected president since 1986.

How can this “civil society” do justice to truth on the issues surrounding Gloria’s prevarications when they themselves profited from those lies and cheating. How can these people, including de Villa, deal with truth when they could not even raise a finger to defend the Tribune and press freedom when it was beleaguered by scores of libel cases filed by Gloria’s The Firm? In fact, some of them like Dan Songco and Dinky Soliman openly complained of the existence and reportage of Tribune that relentlessly exposed Gloria and their shenanigans.

The foreign corporatocracy gave Gloria advice when she visited Hong Kong. They discussed her counter-offensive, with an expensive American PR firm. The so-called former Hong Kong anti-corruption czar is nothing more than a decoration in Glo’s board of international advisers. Why hasn’t Hong Kong’s mother country China, higher in the corruption index, used Kwok’s services to clean up China’s bureaucracy? The foreign PR groups advised the Clinton formula, but the Filipino moral sensibilities are surprisingly far more exacting.

With the so-called apology the money-led politicians now have an alibi to stonewall investigations of Gloria’s jueteng and electoral transgressions. A long list of pro-Glo statement e-mailed to people urges the public to leave the sordid Glo-Garci tapes behind and concentrate on “reforms” (such as the VAT to start wreaking havoc in our lives by July 1?). Now we come to the point, their whole corporate conspiracy to defend Glo is a defense of the entire economic exploitation system they’ve put into place through Edsa Dos and Gloria.

Glo’s propagandists are working overtime on their counter-attack. They have fielded Eli Pamatong again, and Eddie Gil may be just around the corner. They’re poisoning the crusade against Glo’s cheating by imputing partisan political motives on critical leaders, like Ronnie Puno’s posters announcing “Rez Cortez for President” and the lampoon poster on a movie “Destabilization” with credits saying “produced and directed by Erap”, starred in by Rex Cortez, Linggoy Alcuaz, etc. They have radio ads extolling Glo as “dakila” (noble) because of her “apology”.

Their graffitis say “Erap Yes, Junta Yes” and large tarpoline signs say “Junta No, Democracy Yes” to malign Erap, but the junta is Abat and FVR’s game (and the Carlyle group is never far behind). Erap still represents the one and only true people’s alternative because he has the heart for the people, and the corporatocracy fears this. If Glo cannot be saved they have their plan for a smooth removal through the ConAss and parliamentary system, and now propping up Lacson (imagine him on CNN for two days?) to divert the masa from Erap; these attempts are but mere flashes in the pan.

Restoration of Erap is the answer, there was a snowballing support for this. Hence, the Lacson distraction. But if the only way is “snap polls” they’ll put obstacles before Erap to run, we hope Susan Roces is then ready to take up the cudgels for the oppressed people that FPJ gave his last moments for. After Gloria the struggle continues, the corporatocracy will not give up their unprecedented profits in Gloria’ time.
